Semester One invites students into a year of story, science, and nationhood. In My Homeschool English 5A, children strengthen composition and grammar through rich readings, poetry, and picture study. Garden Verse Copywork nurtures fluent cursive and an appreciation for beautiful language.
Science
Science opens with Carved by Nature (Term 1), a living Earth Science study revealing how wind, water, and weather shape Australia’s landscapes—from Wave Rock to mangrove shores—while inviting thoughtful stewardship. In Term 2, Beaks and Bills brings the study of birds to life, connecting form and function as students observe feathers, beaks, nests, and flight in local species. Lessons use short readings, gentle experiments, curated video links, notebooking, and narration.
History, Civics & Languages
Our Sunburnt Country traces Australia’s story from First Nations cultures and early exploration to settlement and Federation. Students keep an Australian History Notebook and build a long-view timeline in the My Homeschool Book of Centuries.
- Indigenous Languages & Coolamon Kids: short activities and videos that honour language, culture, and community.
- Members, Ministers and Citizens (Term 2): a clear introduction to Australia’s three levels of government, representation, and citizenship.
Enrichment & Wellbeing
Weekly enrichment weaves beauty and balance into learning: poetry, picture study, music appreciation, and simple art invitations. PDHPE habits and Work Out World keep minds and bodies active with age-appropriate movement and healthy routines.

Downunder Copywork Cursive Year 5 continues to strengthen fluency and appreciation for classic prose and poetry.
Science
Science broadens curiosity through Science Strands Year 5, a living introduction to physics and chemistry. Across the seasons, A Bush Calendar by Amy Mack builds attentiveness to nature’s rhythms, encouraging students to watch, sketch, and wonder.
Geography, Economics & Civics
Geography takes students around the world with Pleasant Talk of Places, exploring North America (Term 3) and Europe (Term 4). Through narrative lessons, mapping, and notebooking, children discover how geography and culture shape human life.
- Managing Extreme Weather: Investigate natural events such as bushfires, floods, and cyclones, and how communities adapt to change.
- Managing Resources: A gentle introduction to economics—understanding needs and wants, saving, and using resources wisely.
Creative Arts & Technology
