      • Year 4 (Full Year) Summary

Our full Year 4 Course continues with My Homeschool English—a structured, literature-based program that nurtures your child’s writing and communication skills within a knowledge-rich context. This carefully crafted resource integrates poetry, grammar, spelling through morphology, and the study of root words, suffixes, and prefixes. Students enjoy a delightful blend of Australian poetry and historical fiction while continuing their cursive handwriting practice through copywork. Regular narration and written work foster deep thinking and language development.

In Science, students begin with Earth Science through living books and engaging lessons on the water cycle. Chemistry and Physics are explored through simple experiments, videos, and notebooking activities. Our Biology study focuses on the wonders of the garden ecosystem, encouraging students to observe and record their own local discoveries. Nature Study and seasonal Nature Stories round out the science experience, inspiring attentiveness and wonder in the natural world.

In Humanities and Social Sciences, students journey through the Middle Ages and the Age of Exploration. Lessons include civics themes such as rules, democracy, and the European explorers who first reached Australian shores. Through narrative and picture study, students explore how life in Sydney Cove changed before and after the arrival of the First Fleet. A pictorial timeline helps children place key events within a historical framework.

Our Geography program offers a one-year study of the world, combining mapwork with captivating stories and activities. Students also explore how Australia’s First Nations peoples use and care for the land—offering a thoughtful and respectful perspective on country and place.

The Arts are celebrated through Music Appreciation and Art Lessons designed for group study and personal expression. Children also create artworks inspired by Indigenous themes, encouraging both creativity and cultural understanding.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is supported with online workout classes and age-appropriate resources that promote physical activity, good habits, and wellbeing.

While we do not include a Mathematics program, we provide recommendations to help you choose the best fit for your family and offer exclusive discounts on trusted resources.

In Geography, students begin a two-term world study, travelling through four continents using living books, mapping activities, and picture-based learning. This gentle introduction to global geography helps children connect places, people, and cultures.

History focuses on the Middle Ages, where children build a pictorial timeline and meet key figures from William the Conqueror to Joan of Arc. Alongside world history, students are introduced to Australian history through stories set before European settlement, providing a meaningful sense of place and continuity.

Science starts with Earth Science and an exploration of the water cycle, where children are encouraged to observe, record, and make simple predictions. In Term Two, the focus shifts to plant life and garden ecosystems, guided by the living book Plant Life in Field and Garden. Nature Study continues with regular observations and journaling, cultivating habits of attention and wonder.

The curriculum also includes Art and Music Appreciation, offering weekly exposure to great works and creative expression. Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is supported through practical activities and online resources that promote health and wellbeing.
