• Year 3 Curriculum Overview

    Year 3 invites children to explore the world with growing confidence and curiosity. As literacy skills strengthen, students enjoy a wide range of rich content including poetry, historical fiction, science, history, geography, nature study, art, music, and physical education—all delivered through living books and meaningful activities.

    This course is aligned with the Australian Curriculum, as well as the NSW and WA Curriculum frameworks. With a gentle and thoughtful approach inspired by Charlotte Mason, lessons are designed to spark interest, encourage narration, and build connections across subjects, helping learning feel natural and alive.

      • Year 3 (Full Year) Summary

        Our full Year 3 Course continues with My Homeschool English—a structured, literature-based program that builds strong writing and communication skills within a knowledge-rich setting. This carefully designed resource includes grammar, copywork, and regular narration, while also introducing spelling through morphology, including root words, suffixes, and prefixes. Students read Australian-themed poetry and historical fiction and practise writing through guided comprehension and composition activities. Cursive is introduced using Australian-themed classics and the delightful works of Beatrix Potter.

        In Science, students explore the natural world starting with backyard Nature Study on local plants and animals. They begin a nature journal, using guided discovery pages to support their observations and deepen their curiosity. Living science readers and videos guide their discovery of Chemistry and Physics concepts, while Earth Science includes a fascinating study of the Solar System.

        History and Geography lessons lead students through Ancient Rome and the Early Middle Ages, with timeline work helping them understand the sequence of historical events. Geography focuses on Australia and its neighbouring countries, developing mapwork and atlas skills. In Civics, children explore national identity through the study of Australian emblems and symbols.

        The curriculum also includes Art and Music Appreciation lessons for group study, designed to cultivate creativity, appreciation of beauty, and cultural understanding.

        Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is supported with online workout classes and resources that encourage healthy habits, movement, and wellbeing.

      • Year 3 (Half Year) Summary

        Our Year 3 Lite Course offers a beautifully curated two-term introduction to the My Homeschool curriculum. Designed as a condensed version of our full-year course, it provides a rich and engaging education across key subject areas—ideal for families seeking a gentle or mid-year start. Flexible and easy to implement, this course can be started at any time.

        English lessons continue with a structured, literature-based approach that builds literacy skills in a knowledge-rich setting. Students enjoy a collection of humorous Australian animal poems and age-appropriate historical fiction. Copywork using classic nursery rhymes introduces cursive writing in a gentle, accessible way, while regular narration, reading, and composition activities foster confidence and clarity in communication.

        In Science, children begin observing the natural world with a Nature Study unit focused on backyard plants, insects, and animals. Weekly nature journaling and guided activities encourage curiosity and help students form habits of attention and wonder.

        History and Geography include a study of Ancient Rome and the Early Middle Ages, supported by the creation of a personal timeline. Australian history is introduced through a focus on national emblems and symbols. In Geography, students explore Australia’s place in the world and begin their own map journal, using picture books to guide a journey through continents and cultures.

        The curriculum also includes Art and Music Appreciation, offering regular opportunities for creativity, beauty, and enjoyment through group learning and guided exposure to great works.
