2. Your Weekly Planner

This is a sample of our online weekly planner. It is also available in a printable (PDF) version that you can download.

This weekly schedule has a four–day academic load with the fifth day scheduled for other activities. It is possible to squish lessons into three days if necessary but you may find your child doesn’t have the stamina for that on a regular basis. You’ll be the best judge of that.

See our Year 2 Weekly Timetable Sample 2023 as an example of how you could schedule your week.

This My Homeschool Year Two Course is meant to be flexible and you can mix up the activities over the week to suit your own schedule.

Our planner is divided into sections to make it easier to organise your lessons.

2.1. Family Time and Read Alouds

Family Time and Read Alouds

Family Time (also called Circle Time or Morning Time) is time together with all family members. It is a time to encourage truth, beauty and goodness into your day and will likely become a most treasured part of your week. We suggest including your own choice scripture and family devotional in this time. Our Bible History Makers’ resource compliments the Ancient History period and it is an optional suggestion.

If you are teaching a range of children from grades Kindergarten to Year 6 you may wish to only do one Novel and Poet.

Music Appreciation Course: Composer Study and Art Appreciation Course: Picture Study  are found as a separate course withing your My Homeschool Learning Platform. The resources are written with a rotation cycle for Primary. You only need to follow one cycle for all your Primary aged children.

Our History Cycle, which begins in Year 2, can also be easily swapped between grades from Year 2 to Year 4. If you do this, you will also need to choose your child’s additional historical readings and remember to swap the timeline activity as well. (Timelines are only provided for Grades 2 to Year 4).

2.2. Year Two Subjects To Complete

These are activities specific to Year 2 and shouldn’t be changed. You will still need to help children start their lesson but they may be able to do some of it alone. Copywork can be done independently.

The Picture Book Links can be watched online but we would encourage you to get the books if you can so they can read them. A few readings of the weekly picture books should be done through the week.

2.3. Notebooking Activities & Extensions

This section is usually more hands-on and the activities may correspond with another previously taught lessons. For example, the history timeline entry corresponds to the history cycle reading.
